MiCA licence in Latvia
The EU crypto licence, from the regulator that is actually issuing them.
MiCA, the EU's crypto-asset regulation, gives a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) one licence that passports across all 30 EEA countries. The question is no longer whether to get licensed, but where.
What the route looks like
Free, unlimited pre-licensing consultations. A €2,500 application fee. Minimum capital of €50,000, €125,000 or €150,000 depending on the service class. A 25 + 40 working-day regulator assessment, and three to six months end to end for a well-prepared file.
Substance, not paperwork
Latvijas Banka expects a real office in Riga where the business is managed, two to three directors with at least one resident in the EU, a dedicated AML officer, and governance, IT security and business-continuity frameworks that hold up to scrutiny. Final documents are filed in Latvian.
Why Latvia over Lithuania or Estonia
Lithuania's old crypto register is gone and full authorisation is the bar. Estonia cancelled its legacy licences on 1 July 2026. Latvia is issuing, is reachable and licenses combined models: firms have received MiCA and payment licences on the same day.
After the licence
A MiCA licence is the moment permanent obligations begin: AML monitoring, reporting, policy upkeep, regulator correspondence. Plan for them before you file, and decide early who will run them.
