EMI & payment licence in Latvia
An EU payments licence with direct SEPA access.
An e-money institution (EMI) can issue electronic money; a payment institution (PI) can execute payments without issuing it. Both passport across the EEA from a single Latvian licence.
Direct SEPA access
Latvian licensees can connect to SEPA through Latvijas Banka's EKS clearing system. That is a practical advantage over jurisdictions where you depend on a sponsor bank.
A new option: the specialised credit institution
Since January 2026, a specialised credit institution ('neobank') licence is available from €1M capital, for firms that have outgrown the EMI model.
After approval
Safeguarding, regulatory reporting, outsourcing consent and a named compliance officer are permanent obligations. Plan for them before you file, not after.
